This hand crafted walking cane is made from a beautiful piece of Red Mallee Burl from Australia. The blond portion of the handle was the Mallee tree's sap wood (The outer layers of wood), the various reds and pinkish colors are the heartwood; the contrast adds an extra bit of beauty to this piece. The shaft is curl figured eucalyptus wood, also from Australia. Its also red mallee burl in the divider, but the wood is oriented 90 degrees from the handle to show its grain differently. Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.

This particular piece would not be a good candidate for bearing much weight, as the handle could fracture with enough pressure at the back end or over the top of the arch. It would be a suitable balance aid, and if the need for bearing occasional weight arose, doing so directly over the shaft of the cane would ensure longevity. Red Mallee is dense, but the grain in the handle is erratic.
