A piece from the “feather collection” of summer 2022; avian inspired canes implying motion and flight.

Since I started making canes cocobolo has been perhaps the most popular wood, and it's easy to see why! Reds oranges and blacks all intermixed with a beautiful wood grain, plus Cocobolo is a dense wood. The best quality Cocobolo comes from Mexico and has black lines in the grain, this cane is a great example. This is the only member of the Feather collection with a matte finish. It still has a nice sheen but no gloss and no finish over the wood, only a penetrating oil that makes the cane velvety smooth. The center divider piece in this cane is really unique, it's leg bone from an extinct ice age horse species! It was excavated from the Siberian permafrost, identified, dried, and then it was stabilized with resin to fill in the porous cells to make a solid, workable materials. Its likely the bone is around 30,000-50,000 years old. The bird of prey handle is my all-time favorite handle, It was my first ever bird-inspired handle design as well. It's very comfortable and has a really striking style. Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.
