Amboyna and Jasper Cane

$1,500.00

An heirloom quality piece, this lapidary cane has a blond amboyna burl handle with Willow creek jasper ends and a South African Olivewood shaft. Most amboyna burl is a either a red or orange color, but this piece is sapwood and essentially colorless. It is also spalted adding grey coloring to the amboyna. In the divider is a gorgeous piece of muskox horn from Alaska, this rare material is semi-transparent and has beautiful patterns. The olivewood shaft has a lovely grain with some contrast and light figure, this is also a very dense wood. This cane is a light-colored masterpiece, it measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.

The amboyna burl handle has been stabilized with resin. This process adds density to the wood by replacing the microscopic voids within the cells with resin. These voids in the cells would otherwise seasonally absorb and release water from the atmosphere, which isn't problematic for a cane, but that is the reason why wood expands and contracts. Stabilized wood is no longer susceptible to atmospheric influences, hence the name.
