This bright and colorful lapidary cane has a curly maple handle and a curly Australian leopardwood shaft with a piece of lace agate and brass. The maple handles has been dyed yellow (although a subdued yellow compared to some) and stabilized. Stabilization adds density to the wood and improves its durability and stability in service. Curly maple is wildly chatoyant, quite beautiful. Curly maple is the first wood I ever fell in love with as a boy and launched my fascination with wood working. On the end of the handle is lace agate from Mexico, a pretty stone with lots of patterns and complimenting colors. Australian leopardwood is a dense wood and this piece has a tight curl figure. Unfortunately the curl figure doesn't really through in the photographs because its a light wood. Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.
