Gidgee Cane

$1,250.00

Here is a lovely traditional style cane with an incredible selection of natural materials. The handle and shaft are both an obscure arid acacia species from Australia that grows on the fridge of the outback called "gidgee". This is rare wood, only harvested on a small scale, I've gone through great lengths to connect with "wood hunters" in Australia that drive 1000's of KM seeking out these special timbers and offer small blocks and board for sale. Gidgee is a small, stunted tree, getting quality wood in shaft-lengths is a challenge. Also, Gidgee is the second densest wood, basically tied with genuine lignum vitae, its a profoundly heavy and durable timber. The handle has exhibition grade curl figure, as good as curl figure gets, tinny 3D fiddleback - extra rare and beautiful! There is also a little blonde sapwood along the top of the handle that matches the divider. In the divider are a few things that draw the eye, first are the Chrysocolla lapidary pins, a turquoise colored stone from Arizona. Next is the amboyna burl in the center, a special little piece of rare wood with swirly grain.

This piece would make a great daily use cane given its strength and durability, but certainty classy enough for any special occasion. This cane is a heavy one, users of small stature may not be comfortable using for extended periods of time. Can function as a self defense cane if need be. Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.
