NOTE: I only repair my own work; no antiques, family heirlooms, or pieces from other makers.

  • Refinishing Damage to the finish and aesthetic of the cane

    • Worn through finish/bare wood exposed

    • Scratches

    • Weather damage

  • Reworking & Refinishing Damage extends into the wood

    • Dings and dents into the wood

    • Small chips of wood have broken off

    • Pitted and roughed up surfaces from impacts

  • Cracks

    • hairline cracks in the handle or shaft

  • Breaks

    • The handle or shaft have broken

Repair Costs

Determined by our direct communication

Expenses cover my time, return shipping, and material. Canes always return looking and feeling like new, no matter how extensive the damage, one benefit of owning a quality piece made of solid, genuine material.

  • Refinishing

    • $75 No wood is damaged, Cane will be completely refinished

    • I DO NOT offer $75 refinishing if there is more significant damage to the cane. I do not do half-jobs.

  • Reworking and Refinishing a cane:

    • $100 (most common) roughed wood is sanded, plus complete refinishing

    • $150 heavy damage: wood requires considerable work, plus complete refinishing

  • Cracks

    • $125 Hairline cracks filled-in with a specialty adhesive, plus complete refinishing

  • Breaks (Uncommon)

    • $150 + additional Cost dependent upon replacement materials

How to send in for service

Shipping the damaged cane to Gillis Canes is the responsibility of the customer

UPS is highly recommended - US Postal Service is NOT. UPS store will also be able to provide a package if needed

Payment for service will be completed through Gilliscanes.com by purchasing a reserved repair listing

IMPORTANT: Include within the package with the cane a neatly written letter with customer contact and return address information (name, phone, email, full shipping address)

Repair service can take a few weeks (typical) up to a few months (unusual). Repaired canes ship when complete.
