Rubber Tip Replacement

This page is a guide to identifying size and purchasing replacement rubber tips for your Gillis Cane. Slip-on style rubber tip replacement is self-service. If your cane has a metal ferrule bottom with a low profile rubber foot please contact me for a replacement.

First, you will need to know the size rubber tip that will fit your cane.

If the original rubber is unavailable you will need to measure the diameter of the bottom of the cane shaft. Otherwise your original rubber tip should have a stamp on the inside bottom of the tip stating its size, visible if it is removed from the cane.

Using a ruler or tape measure, lay it across the bottom of the wooden shaft (as if looking up at the cane from the floor) and find the diameter of its circular wooden base.

Every Gillis Cane is completely handmade, therefore every one is slightly different in size. It is also possibly oval in shape as well, in which case use the long measurement. The measurement cannot be skipped or estimated.

Most Gillis Canes use either a 3/4" inch, or a 7/8” size slip-on style rubber tip, with fewer using a 5/8” or 1” size.

If your cane diameter is in between any of these sizes, you’ll likely need the next smaller size rubber tip that is slightly smaller than your diameter. Rubber tips need to fit snugly and have flexibility.
