Brazilian Rosewood and Mahogany Cane

$400.00

Considered a “holy grail” wood, Brazilian rosewood is regarded as one of the finest tonal woods in the world for musical instruments. It's tonal qualities lead this species into its demise, over harvesting brought Brazilian rosewood nearly to extinction. Now this rosewood is highly coveted and extremely scarce because it hasn't been traded since the 1970's. This handle is made from a piece that has been in storage prior to the import ban in the 1970’s. The shaft is another coveted and rare wood with a similar and equally unfortunate story, its figured Honduran mahogany, which was gluttonously consumed for other woodworking such as fine furniture. These woods are beautiful pieces of both nature and history that live on to tell the story of how fragile nature is, and our responsibility to care for it as our own. Medium weight cane, towards the lighter end, still suitable for daily use by almost any user. Total length of this cane measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.
