Bog Oak Traditional Cane
Bog Oak Traditional Cane
This ancient cane has a Ukrainian Bog Oak handle and shaft. Essentially a very dark grey cane with little color except for the golden brass and divider material. Ukrainian bog oak is approximately 5,000-7,000 years old! Wood like this is called "sinker" wood: an oak tree lives a typical life span but when it dies and falls it is covered in peat moss or falls into a bog, both of which create an oxygen deprived environment that perfectly preserves the wood. But the oak does absorb minerals from its surroundings and the result after thousands of years is a dark color. Ancient wood like this is very rare and has a great story. The divider area has solid layers of brass and “black and white ebony” wood in the middle. Medium weight cane that could be used by most anyone, daily use appropriate. Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.
The last image is of a “log in the bog”, ancient bog oak being found and excavated.
