Boxwood Bird Cane

$400.00

This bright colored cane has a South African boxwood handle and a South American boxwood shaft. Boxwood is one of the best suited woods for functional implements, it is a dense wood with a very fine grain that is quite strong and split resistant. In fact many of my own wood working tools from as early as the 1700's and 1800's were made using boxwood for certain high-wear components and they still function as intended and are used today to make my canes! There is a light curl figure in the shaft, not highly visible, but a pleasant addition. The divider is brass. Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.

During use your index finger wraps comfortably underneath the "beak". Designed to imply motion and flight, the handle is poised slightly forward in relation to the shaft. Therefore, the weight bearing portion of the handle is directly over the shaft, giving the piece a very stable feel.
