"Fireball"

$4,000.00

“Fireball (2.0)” is a simply outstanding cane, fully function but museum worthy. I’ve named it “Fireball” for its flame figured Siamese rosewood handle and two end pieces of the Aletai iron meteorite that crashed into planet earth ages ago in what would have been a tremendous fireball! Siam rosewood is a very rare and highly coveted wood without special figure in its grain, but this flame figured example has such a special look that I don’t expect I’ll ever see more of it again once its gone. Siamese rosewood is also a chatoyant wood with a nice shimmery quality to its grain that accentuates the fiery look.

The Aletai meteorite ends are such cool pieces of natural history. Aletai impacted in the modern day Xinjiang region of China. Frist discovered in the late 1800’s, the Aletai meteor was a large iron meteor estimated at over 70 tones. When it impacted earth it created a field of scattered fragments over 150 square miles. Fragments are still being collected to this day, often buried feet beneath the ground. The unique patterns in the metal are called “Widmanstätten patterns” that formed over millions of years as iron and nickel slowly cooled within the cores of asteroids that formed with our solar system. These patterns can’t be recreated or replicated on earth! A piece of outer space in your hands.

The divider is also very special on this cane, the bright center is muskox horn, specifically the “boss” of the horn at the top where it attached to the animal’s head. The boss of the horn has in wood terminology a “curl figured” look that has a strong 3D appearance but different than wood because the horn is translucent too! In short its definitely cool looking upon close inspection and its very rare material. The metal layers are German silver, bright and beautiful.

I’m not finished! Fireball has stand-out macassar ebony shaft from Sulawesi island. Its grain is tightly striped with black and dark browns and has a gentle ripple along its length that forms beautiful grain effects. This is the best Macassar ebony.

A heavier weight cane, sturdy and substantial feeling. Users of small stature my tire with extended use; could still be used by most anyone. Daily use functional but probably best to consider for special occasion use. Total length measures 38” and can be shortened to fit.
