The Sericho Pistol Grip Cane
The Sericho Pistol Grip Cane
A magnificent cane for lovers of exotic woods, featuring an extra unique kind of meteorite. The handle is my personal favorite wood, its Sonoran desert ironwood burl from Arizona. This wood is extremely dense and durable making it a fine choice for functional implements, but its also very beautiful with a chatoyant grain, and in this example, rare burl figured grain. The shaft is another favorite, and one of my best selling woods, its Cocobolo rosewood from Mexico, and it has an excellent display of color and grain. This particular piece of cocobolo was stored in a gentleman’s shed in California since the 1980’s, and offered to me in 2023.
This cane’s most exotic feature is the piece of meteorite decorating the end of the pistol grip handle. It is a part of the Sericho meteorite, and is a very rare classification called a pallasite meteorite, which is a combination of olivine crystal in a matrix of iron and nickel. Approximately .2 - .3 % of all meteorite is pallasite-type with only 87 found to date. From the craftsman’s perspective it was extremely challenging to shape and work because of its complex composition. Sericho is named after its location in Kenya. The meteorite’s olivine crystals complement the colors of the ironwood, and I couldn’t resist using genuine outer space iron with the ironwood.
A heavier weight cane, sturdy and substantial feeling; not among my heaviest, but users of small stature my tire with extended use; could still be used by most anyone. Daily use functional, but precaution should be taken to avoid dropping such a special cane such as a wrist strap. Total length measures 38” and can be shortened to fit.
