Here is a tall eucalyptus wood staff with curl figured grain. It was made completely by hand by myself, no extras, just rugged practicality and a beautiful wood. This eucalyptus wood was sold to me as a “mystery wood”, it has been held it storage for decades and its origins became lost to the owner. I have worked with enough woods to make a good educated guess, but I will say I can’t be 100% sure either. Even still if it is eucalyptus wood, there are over 700 eucalyptus species! All that aside, its very dense and durable wood with a pleasant color and grain.

This staff is just shy of 69 inches (nearing 6 feet) tall, and can be shortened by request. It’s intended to be held from the side at shoulder height. It is a straight stick with a gentle taper. Most of the stick is oval shape, which is better for grasping, and tapers consistently. The bottom and top are both rounded. It has a satiny Danish oil finish that penetrates and protects the wood, but wears gracefully for demanding usage. The surface is smooth but not so polished that the hand slips, a “just right” feel in the hand.
