"A Walk In The Forest"
"A Walk In The Forest"
"A Walk In The Forest" is a museum-worthy walking cane made out of incredible natural materials with the finest craftsmanship. The handle is gidgee wood from Australia, a rare acacia species that grows on the fringes of the outback. This rare semi-arid tree is small and bushy but produces some of the densest and most durable wood in the world, actually second densest in the world after Genuine lignum (#1). But this cane handle is figured with the finest, tightest, 3D curl figure making this example exceptionally rare and beautiful.
On the front end of the handle is a piece of Canadian Ammolite, which is the fossilized shell of an extinct ammonite species from approximately 100 million years ago. It’s wildly colored and flashes similarly to an opal with greens, yellows, oranges and reds. Fossilized ammonites can be found all over the world but the gem-quality ammolite remains are only found in the Bearpaw Formation of Alberta, Canada.
The shaft is another stand-out piece of wood, its Argentinian lignum vitae. This wood is a relative of the “genuine” lignum vitae, the densest wood in the world. Argentinian lignum is also a profoundly dense, durable, and oily wood just like a couple of other woods that have adopted the name “lignum”. This wood is an endangered species and becoming very scarce, especially in large piece like a cane shaft. Its grain is decorative with a feather-like look and beautiful green color.
This is a heavy cane, is commands a slow pace and offers excellent stability and confidence. Users of small stature may tire with use. Total length measures 38” and can be shortened to fit.
