Sonoran Desert Cane

$2,000.00

This exhibition-worthy walking cane Is made using figured Sonoran desert ironwood my favorite wood species (which is saying a lot for how many species I have used). The handle is burl figured with rich, warm colors, swirly grain and fine chatoyance. The shaft has its only lively grain movement and matching colors. Desert ironwood is one of the most challenging woods for me to source in shaft-length pieces, so its a pleasure to offer it occasionally. The tree itself is stunted, small, and scraggly, see the last image for an example of the ironwood tree in its native range. Overall Desert ironwood is dense, durable, chatoyant, colorful, and in this example highly figured - can wood get better? The lapidary elements (divider and end pieces) are a turquoise colored stone also from the Sonoran Desert called “Chrysocolla”. This is a heavy cane, not suitable for extended use by users of small stature. Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.
