Boxwood and Bocote Cane
Boxwood and Bocote Cane
Here’s a unique piece using woods from around the world. The handle is boxwood from S. Africa, a dense and fine grained wood coming from a small, slow growing tree. Boxwood is renown for being an outstanding carving wood capable of holding fine details. Its also legendary for its durability and wear resistance. Many of my old hand wood working tools from the 1800’s incorporate boxwood components and are just as functional today. The shaft is Bocote wood from Mexico, one of the more exotic-looking species with a black and golden yellow contrasting grain. This piece should make a good daily user, best for medium to small hands, but its thinner than most of my canes and a little too thin for large hands. Total length measures 38” and can be shortened to fit.
