Masur Birch and Madagascar Rosewood Talon Cane
Masur Birch and Madagascar Rosewood Talon Cane
Here’s an Heirloom quality eagle’s talon style cane with a masur birch handle and Madagascar rosewood shaft. Its been many years since I have used masur birch in my work, its a beautiful material and unlike any other kind of figure. The figuring in the grain is actually the result of some kind of disease, the exact reason why certain birch trees in Russia and Scandinavia exhibit this figure is unknown. The diseased wood with the figure is only ever on the outside of the tree, and they are small trees, so it can be hard to find suitable material for my work. This is the largest cane handle I’ve been able to make out of this wood! The shaft is Madagascar rosewood, a very scarce and desirable timber that is now highly protected. Its a medium weight cane that could be used by most anyone. Total length measures 38” and can be shortened to fit.
