Rosewood and Ebony Cane
Rosewood and Ebony Cane
This piece is an outstanding example of the beauty found in exotic woods. The handle is Oliveri rosewood, one of the more obscure rosewood species coming from S. E. Asia, it is almost unheard of in the West. This example is an unusual vibrant orange color (most Oliveri is a purple tone) and has a light pomelle figured grain, It is also unusually dense for the species. Its uniqueness makes me question if it is actually Oliveri, or a different rosewood subspecies, I can’t be sure. The shaft is macassar ebony with a almost completely black appearance. Macassar ebony is among the finest and mostly highly regarded woods in the world. A fully functional and unique walking cane in rare, high-ends woods.
