Aztec Cane

$3,000.00

The Aztec Cane, a museum quality piece using some extraordinary pieces of wood. The handle is made out one of the most prized pieces in my entire wood collection, its “Aztec rosewood” with a scientific name: Dalbergia Calderonii. This super obscure rosewood species is almost unheard of, I’ve only ever had the opportunity to purchase one small piece in my career that was large enough to make three cane handles, the first I made about 7 years ago, this is the second. Its grain is unique too with a host of different colors and obvious pink hues in the darker colored bands, with a wild figured appearance towards the top of the handle.

The divider is some handsomely figured snakewood. Its a beautiful piece and a great example of the species, but I also chose this piece for this cane because the snake was a major symbol and primary deity in Aztec culture and art. Above and below the snakewood are layers of bronze each in between two layers of copper. This detail is easier to appreciate in person but a little hard to see in the images. Both metal colors complement the woods nicely.

Finishing the cane is an explosively wild figured shaft of Caribbean rosewood. This is called “pomelle” figure and its one of the rarest forms of figure in any wood, this example is the best - completely loaded with amazing, beautiful grain. Caribbean rosewood has a depth and large variety of colors in its beautiful and intricate grain, all very chatoyant too - a favorite wood.

A “once in a lifetime” cane, but perfectly functional and ready to be used daily if desired. Its weight is medium and could be used and enjoyed by most anyone. Total length measures 38” and can be shortened to fit.
