Here’s a wonderful, heirloom quality walking cane made with special rosewood and ebony. The handle is one of my personal favorite woods, and one of the rarest among the rosewood species, its Bois de rose from Madagascar with a scientific name: Dalbergia Maritima. It’s obviously quite dark, but Bois de rose has a wonderful maroon red/dark purple color and a chatoyant grain. It requires some bright environments to fully appreciate, but this is a gorgeous wood with a fine chatoyance. Its also very dense and heavy and feels great in hand. Bois de rose was always a rare and precious wood, but has become extremely rare in recent years. Only very old pieces can be found in personal wood collections.

The shaft is a stand-out piece of my best Macassar ebony from Sulawesi Island in Indonesia. This is another dark piece of wood but like the rosewood handle has some wonderful grain. Its tightly striped with dark brown and black, which meander and down the shaft making interesting visuals. Its about as dense and heavy and the Bois de rose. A light curl figure is present as well.

The divider layer is German silver with steel mosaic pins. A great high-end cane that would make a good daily use cane, or special occasion piece. Fairly heavy, but still in the average range for my canes, suitable for most users to enjoy comfortably but has a substantial feel of quality hardwoods. Total length measures 38” and can be shortened to fit.
