Chocolate Rosewood Cane

$1,800.00

This exhibition worthy walking cane it a wonderful example of the natural beauty found in rosewoods. The handle is Siamese rosewood from S. E. Asia, scientific name: Dalbergia Cochinchinensis. This critically endangered species produces some of the most beautiful timber in the world with an amazing range of possible colors and grains, high density, and stability. This example is Chocolate brown with a deep, 3D quilted figure and very dynamic chatoyance. The way this figured grain interacts with light is captivating and beautiful, but the effect can’t be captured in pictures. Once my small inventory of old-growth Siamese rosewood is gone it’ll be gone for good, and these figured pieces are considerably rarer yet!

The divider is a pop of dark red color, its cocobolo rosewood from Mexico. One of the highest regarded rosewood species in the Western world, this little piece represents Cocobolo color at its best, its flanked by layers of brass and thin rosewood.

Finishing the cane is a piece of unidentified rosewood that I’ve had in my inventory for at least 8-10 years. Its “Madagascar Palisander”, but which Dalbergia species (actual tree) it is, I’m unsure. Madagascar is home to over 80 different Dalbergia (rosewood) species, most of which are facing extinction due to over harvesting. This piece of rosewood was already very old when I bought it, and anything else from Madagascar these days has been sitting on a shelf for a long, long time. Once these precious few pieces are gone they will be gone for good.

This cane is suitable for just about anyone to use and enjoy, its weight is medium and the handle is comfortable. Could be sued as a daily use cane, or reserved as a special occasion cane. The finish is satiny with a low sheen and very smooth, natural feel, this is a combination of natural penetrating oils and buffed wax. Total length measures 38” and can be shortened to fit.
