Here is an heirloom quality cane handmade from a selection of light, bright woods and interesting wood grains. The handle is salvage harvest yellow box wood, one of Australia’s eucalyptus species, its wood is very dense and durable. The grain in this example has high-grade curl figure which look like waves in the wood that are 3D looking. This is the most figured material from this species any of my Australian suppliers had ever see in their careers! In the divider is a stack of 7 layers, the center is karelian birch, two layers of desert ironwood, and 4 thin, solid brass layers. Finally the shaft is Cumaru wood, a profoundly dense and durable exotic wood from S. America, it has a nice grain wood with a few tinny burl clusters along its length. A functional cane, suitable for daily use. It is a heavy one, it feels substantial in the hand, users of small stature may not enjoy.
