Ebony and Katalox Cane
Ebony and Katalox Cane
Here is a classy ebony cane with a black west African ebony handle and Katalox, or Mexican royal ebony wood shaft. Solid black ebony is one of the most coveted woods in the world, Its amazing how dark this wood is, and its totally natural. Black west African ebony, with a Latin scientific name: Diospyros crassiflora, is often called “Gabon Ebony” but this material came from Nigeria. Gabon ebony is endangered and very rare, and very expensive.
The shaft is a super dense and durable wood from Central America, the species is biologically unrelated to true ebony species, but granted the name “ebony” for the wood’s similarities. The most unique feature of Katalox woods appearance is its distinct purple hue. Katalox’s density and grain structure make it miserably difficult to work with in my traditional handmade methods, it is not a wood I use often.
This piece is made out of quality, dense, hardwoods and has a substantial feel. Could be used comfortably by most anyone, except for those who are particularly small in stature. Total length measures 38” and can be shortened to fit.
