Flame Rosewood Cane with Pearl and Ebony
Flame Rosewood Cane with Pearl and Ebony
Here’s an heirloom quality walking cane crafted with exquisite natural materials. The handle is flame figured Siamese rosewood, which is once in a lifetime wood. This rosewood species is very rare and highly coveted without special figure in its grain, but this flame figured example has such a special look that I don’t expect I’ll ever see more of it again once its gone. Siamese rosewood is also a chatoyant wood with a nice shimmery quality to its grain that accentuates the fiery look. Aside from its beauty the rosewood is very dense and durable, all of the best qualities in one wood.
The divider is more of the same rosewood but end grain oriented towards the sides of the cane to show its unique growth, how the “flames” emanated from the center of the tree. There are two layers of German silver and three pins of pearl on each side with an excellent shimmery quality that needs no introduction to many. The pearl is so light in comparison to the woods that they are mostly over exposed in the photographs and its hard to see the patterns in the pearl. Finishing the cane is a black ebony shaft from Indonesia, dense, durable, and naturally black, some of the most valuable wood in the world.
This piece would make a fine daily use cane, its comfortable and functional. It’s weight is towards the heavier side, it has a respectable heft and feels like very dense, quality hardwoods and excellent craftsmanship. Total length measures 38” and it can be shortened to fit.
