Gillis Collaboration Cane

$250.00

This cane was mostly made by my 9 year old son. The Gillis family will soon have its next generation of cane-makers! The handle is “ringed Gidgee” wood, or curl figured gidgee wood, which is an arid region acacia species form Australia. A very are wood, Gidgee is extremely durable and very close to being the densest wood in the world. Gidgee is even rarer with curl figure as seen in this example with tight 3D looking ripples. In the divider is Verawood and brass, and the shaft is Ipe wood, another very dense durable hardwood. This cane is a little on the petite side compared to other standard Gillis Canes. My hand fits a large size glove, and I can hold this cane comfortably but its a little small. smaller or medium hands will work well. Its a sturdy cane and would make a great daily use piece. It measures 38” and can be shortened to fit.

My son designed, drilled holes, assembled, shaped, sanded, and finished (natural oil and bees wax) this cane. I cut out the components on the power tools for him, photographed the finished cane and made this web listing. 100% of the proceeds for the sale of this cane go to his saving account.
