The King's Cane

$1,800.00

A cane suitable for the king himself! This piece is made from Brazilian Kingwood, one of the finest of the rosewood species with a scientific name: Dalbergia Cearensis. “Kingwood” was the most expensive wood in Europe during the “age of exploration” and became the exclusive wood of choice for the French king’s furniture, particularly Kings Louis XIV and XV. This colorful, mostly purple hued wood is super dense, heavy, durable, and beautiful, its the second densest of the rosewood species after African Blackwood and among the densest woods in the world. The handle is obviously from a different tree than the shaft wood piece, both are kingwood, but they probably grew in different regions and soil conditions. The shaft is a rich, dark purple while the handle has a host of different colors ranging from peachy tones to dark purples. This wood also has a fine chatoyant effect. Kingwood has not become less precious over the years, today its extremely scarce and a protected species, only very old pieces imported decades ago remain.

In the divider is a matching centerpiece of kingwood with layers of solid copper. The darker two layers are Bois de rose and the thin, subtle outermost layers of wood in the divider are Oliveri, both rare rosewood species.

A great high-end cane that would make a good daily use cane, or special occasion piece. Finished with wax over a highly polished surface. It’s a heavy cane, not suitable for users of small stature to use for walks or day trips. This piece feels like it made out of very substantial wood with a high quality feel. Total length measures 38” and can be shortened to fit.
