Tulipwood Rosewood Cane
Tulipwood Rosewood Cane
This heirloom quality, handmade walking cane is made out of a marvel of nature - Brazilian Tulipwood Rosewood, with a scientific name: Dalbergia Frutenscens. This is one of the most colorful of all woods with a vibrant array of pinks, reds, peaches, and purples. This is also one of the rarest and most coveted of all rosewood species. As a species It’s a small, twisted, tree that hardly produces lumber, so being able to offer long-length cane shafts is a special. Tulipwood is extremely scarce and as a protected species only very old pieces are available if found. Aside from its color tulipwood rosewood is also dense, durable, and stable, an excellent wood in many respects. It pairs nicely with warm copper layers in the divider and a center of S. African pink ivory wood. This is a fairly heavy cane, so users of small stature may tire with long periods of use, but it should be usable and enjoyable by most anyone. It could be used daily, or reserved for special occasions. Total length measures 38” and it can be shortened to fit.
It is worth mentioning that “tulipwood” as a common name is also used for other woods, such as the common tulip poplar wood. Brazilian Tulipwood is one of the rosewoods and can be identified without confusion by its latin scientific name.
Also, my camera does well in most circumstances to accurately represent my work, but Tulipwood’s vibrant colors are always a struggle. There are actually more different colors in the wood than represented. So expect something just as vibrant but a little more dynamic.
